Brief Introduction to Basic Technology of Box-type Substation

Box-type transformer is a kind of power equipment integrating traditional transformers and related equipment. It is a completely sealed toughened box structure with transformers, high-voltage voltage control equipment, low-voltage voltage control equipment and so on. A box-type transformer is a closed transformer and usually composed of an iron core, winding and housing. Its shell is made of insulating material or metal material and contains input windings and output windings. It realizes voltage transformation through electromagnetic induction law. Box-type transformers are usually equipped with cooling equipment such as radiators or fans to ensure stable operation in a variety of environments‌.

Technical features
Advanced, safe and reliable technology: The box body adopts the current domestic leading technology and process, the outer shell adopts aluminum-zinc-plated steel plate, and the frame adopts standard container materials and manufacturing processes, which has good anti-corrosion performance. The inner sealing plate adopts aluminum alloy buckle plate, and the interlayer adopts fireproof and heat-insulating materials. The primary equipment in the box adopts fully enclosed high-voltage switchgear, dry-type transformer and other equipment. The product has no exposed live parts and is a fully enclosed and fully insulated structure with high safety.
High degree of automation: The whole station is intelligently designed, and the protection system adopts substation microcomputer integrated automation device, which is dispersedly installed. And it can realize “four remotes”, namely telemetry, telesignaling, remote control, and remote adjustment. Each unit has independent operation function and complete relay protection functions.
Factory prefabrication: During the design, as long as the designer makes a main wiring diagram and the design of the external equipment according to the actual requirements of the substation, the specifications and models of the box- transformer provided by the manufacturer can be selected. All equipment is installed and debugged in the factory once, which greatly shortens the design and manufacturing cycle. On-site installation only requires box positioning, cable connection between boxes, and outgoing cable connection. The time from installation to commissioning of the entire substation is greatly shortened.
Flexible combination: The box-type substation has a compact structure. Each box constitutes an independent system. It has flexible and changeable combination methods. The user can freely combine some modes according to the actual situation to meet the needs of safe operation.
Small footprint: The box-type substation is small in size and light in weight. It does not need to occupy a large area of ​​land and has strong adaptability.
Simple maintenance: Long service life and low maintenance requirements. During the outage, it will not cause power outages for a large area of users, which improves the reliability of power supply.
Precautions and maintenance
Placement: The box-type substation should be placed at a higher place, not in a low-lying place, so as to prevent rainwater from entering the box and affecting the operation of the equipment.
Grounding and zeroing: The grounding and zeroing of the box-type substation share a grounding grid. The grounding grid is generally made by driving grounding piles at the four corners of the foundation and then connecting them as a whole. The box-type substation and the grounding grid must have two reliable connections.
Ventilation and heat dissipation: The box-type substation is mainly cooled by natural wind circulation. No debris can be piled around it, especially the transformer room door. The blinds and vents should be cleaned frequently to ensure that the equipment does not exceed the maximum allowable temperature.
Regular inspection and maintenance: The ring network switch, transformer, lightning arrester and other equipment in the high-voltage room should be inspected and maintained regularly to detect faults and deal with them in a timely manner. Conduct insulation preventive tests regularly to ensure the safe operation of the equipment.
